Thanksgiving season is upon us. If you’re recently divorced, it’s understandable if you’re not feeling particularly thankful at the moment. However, one of the best ways to find peace and move on after your divorce is to find ways to embrace gratitude in your everyday life.
Here are a few ways you can accomplish this.
- Think about what’s good in your life: What are the things you enjoy about your life, even when things feel bad? Maybe it’s your friends, a hobby you have, spending time alone, a pet—anything. Spend some time each day journaling or just reflecting on what about your life is good and what you are grateful for. Journaling is a great way to perform this exercise, as you can go back and revisit your entries and see just how many things in your life make it worthwhile.
- Don’t shy away from emotions: You don’t have to suppress negative emotions like anger or sadness—feeling your emotions is a good thing. However, it I important to refocus and center yourself after experiencing these emotions. Throw yourself into the things you love and are grateful for.
- Do good for others: Giving back to others is a great way to demonstrate gratitude and make a positive difference. Find ways to volunteer, or simply do things for people you care about and who have supported you through difficult times.
